If you own a Mac, you may or may not know how quick and powerful the Spotlight tool can be – but today I’m going to show you 10 Tricks Mac Spotlight Can Do and a few extra tips for customizing it to work the way you want it to.

Before you jump into the list of tricks, I want to show you two ways to open Spotlight.

  1. Click on the magnifying glass in the top right corner, OR
  2. Click command and the space bar at the same time (this method is faster, so it’s the one I recommend in most instances)

Enjoy the list and let me know in the comments which one you like the best or your favorite ones I missed!

NOTE: To use any feature related to directions or location, you must have your location services enabled under System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Location Services.

* Want to switch your Spotlight to the dark version like I have in the video? Go to System Preferences/General and click “Use dark menu bar and Dock.”

The Apple Care class/insight rocks!!! I’ve always went the route of fixing it myself. BUT, you have swayed my line of thought, much appreciated. Good ‘class’….

I didn’t see anothe place to leave you a message, but I wanted to let you know, that the present link to pcclassessonline.com is not pointed to the new site techtalkamerica.com. The link is NOT WORKING! I have tried several time today to click on the link that you supplied, but it goes to the GoDaddy page that belongs to you, but seen as if the site is under construction. You might want to check that out if no one else told you. Also on some of your other pages, the pcclassesonline.com goes to an ERROR page. Maybe my MAC or iPad, but again, I’ve tried several times to click to the new site to no avail.

    My best,

    My Weston

That’s right – because the new site is not live yet.

Regarding other pages that result in an error code, if you could let me know what pages those are, I can fix them right away. We’ve got over 500 pages, so that would be a huge help if you could. Facebook is the fastest/easiest way to communicate, so if you would shoot us a message there, we’d be very grateful. Thanks!

As a new user to Mac I haven’t really used Spotlight much so I was very glad to take this class and will now make sure i take advantage of this great toll. Thank you very much.
I wonder if you might do a class on Pages at some stage?

Great class on Spotlight, Mark! I used to use Finder, but Spotlight is much quicker and smarter to retrieve stuff. Thank you also for showing us the cmd / space bar shortcut.
Difficult to find my favourite trick: I like them all!

Mark, Great class. I always pick up at least a couple (and often a ton) of new ideas I can use in my day to day use of my MBP. Thanks, Keith
